SPA START UP FOR SOFT SOAK
Please read and observe all safety information in your owner’s manual.
Fill spa with hard water. If you do not have hard water available, you will need a water analysis immediately to avoid equipment and spa surface damage. The hardness can be adjusted with addition of Calcium Hardness to the water.
When spa is full, activate electrical power to spa.----Plug in or Turn on the Breakers.
It is important to have a water sample analyzed in our computerized lab to make sure your fill water consists of proper hardness levels and determine if any iron is present in your water. Bring 2 cups of your fill water to Thatcher Pools & Spas and we will perform the analysis absolutely free.
Add 1 oz. Water Line Control per 100 gal.
Add 1 oz. of Stain & Scale Control per 150 gal.
Add 2 oz. of spa shock per 100 gal.
Add 1 oz of sanitizer per 150 gal.
MAINTENANCE
ONCE A WEEK:
Test spa water with test strip and maintain:
pH 7.4 – 7.6
Sanitizer 30 – 50 ppm
Total Alkalinity 125 – 150 ppm
Hardness 100 – 200 ppm
Dip the strip into the spa water for 1 second, remove and hold horizontal. First, read the Calcium Hardness level, continue by reading the PH level next at about 20 seconds and Total Alkalinity at about 30 seconds. RE-DIP the strip, and rapidly move back and forth under water for 30 seconds. Read the Sanitizer level. Incorrect sanitizer reading may occur if the strip is not moved back and forth for a full 30 seconds.
If adjustments are necessary, turn jets on and adjust pH, alkalinity, and Calcium Hardness before adjusting sanitizer.
If you consistently read low sanitizer, it will be necessary to increase the amount of sanitizer added daily.
Never use a spa that does not contain sanitizer.
Add Waterline Control 1 oz. per 200 gallons
Add Stain & Scale Control 1/2 oz. per 300 gallons
Add Spa Shock 1 oz. per 100 gallons
Add Sanitizer based on test results and spa volume………..1oz per 300 gallons if level is 11-30ppm
2oz per 300 gallons if level is 0-10ppm
It may be necessary to increase the amount and frequency of Spa Shock when shocking the spa after heavy bather loads, if the water is hazy, cloudy, or has an odor. If your spa is used three or more times per week, use double amount of the Soft Soak Spa Shock.
Add maintenance dose of Stain & Scale Control faithfully each week. This chemical keeps calcium from building up on the spa surface and inside equipment.
It may be necessary to increase the amount of Stain & Scale Control you add weekly to control iron deposits and excessive calcium hardness readings.
EVERY 2-4 MONTHS:
Chemically clean your filter cartridges.
Remove filter(s) from spa – do not operate the spa without filters
Rinse with a Garden hose
Place the Filter Cartridge in a solution of 1 part of Filter Cleaner to 3 parts of water.
Allow to soak for 1 hour
Light brushing may be required for heavy oil accumulation
Rinse thoroughly with a Garden hose
Soak in clear water for 1 hour
For best performance, allow filters to dry completely before using them again
Hose off filters every 2-4 weeks
Change the water in your spa (follow your owners manual instructions)
Formula to find out how often you need to drain and refill your spa:
DIVIDE SPA GALLONS BY DAILY BATHERS, THAT NUMBER DIVIDED BY 3 = DAYS BETWEEN DRAINING
EXAMPLE: 300 GALLONS/2 DAILY BATHERS/3 = 50 DAYS
Be sure you disconnect power to the spa before draining.
Clean spa surfaces with SpaGuard Surface Cleaner.
The water you re-fill with must be hard. Softened water will cause surface and equipment damage to the spa.
Bring a sample of your water to Thatcher Pools and Spas for a free complete analysis.
Do not re-fill with hot water, this can cause the high-limit switch to trip.
Be sure the spa is completely full before restoring power to the spa.
Try to time water changes so that you are not draining and refilling the spa Dec-Feb.
In the event that your spa won’t heat after changing the water, it is possible an air bubble is causing the problem. Remove your filter element and stand pipe, run water from a hose into the standpipe connection to help “burp” the system.
